The first step was to face and bore the
crankdisk castings. I shouldn't have used
the D-bit reamer pictured here: I've never
had good luck with them. Results are better
if I use a boring tool. Live and learn, I
guess.

I made a nut mandrel with a couple of
different collars and spacers, to take work
of various thicknesses and bore sizes. It
has come in handy any number of times since
this project. Now I have several.

The casting mounted on the mandrel. By the
way, that scale next to it is six inches
long.

I turned a recess on one face of each disk,
leaving a raised hub and rim. I used a
round-nosed tool to get a nice fillet between
the raised portions and the recessed crank
web.

A disk, pretty much done. At this point I
hadn't yet bored the crank pin holes, nor had
I polished the disks.
